Chanel’s playful new promotion

Animated short promo film stars robots made of Chanel cosmetics.

French fashion house Chanel engages in a bit of fun with a new promotional short film featuring five stop-motion animated robots made entirely from Chanel cosmetics, reports Le Blog Luxe.

Titled Here Comes the Beauty Pack, the short was created by Peter Philips, Chanel Makeup’s creative director. Trained in graphic design, Philips built the robots in his spare time, after he was inspired by a series of headdresses he created for a Vogue Paris fashion shoot.

"I then had the chance to play with these characters and do an animation, that’s how my little robots came to life," explained Philips in a statement.

The result is a playful little film, under a minute in a half in length, featuring the cosmetic creations of Philips as they dance and strike poses to a driving techno beat.

The animation will be featured on the Chanel Confidential website after debuting on digital fashion magazine Nowness.

The legendary Parisian fashion house was founded in the early 1900s by Coco Chanel. While this is not the first promotional short released by the company, it differs significantly in tone from previous serious promotional videos.

In 2004, No. 5 The Film, starring Nicole Kidman and directed by Baz Luhrmann, cost over $28 million to make – one of the most expensive advertisements in history.
