Change Your Lifestyle Before Turning to Medication

A Quebec researcher suggests that modifying one’s lifestyle lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease.

According to Professor Jean-Pierre Després at  Laval University’s Faculty of Medicine, improving nutrition and following a regular exercise routine are much more beneficial than using medication to combat obesity and reduce the incidences of having cardiovascular disease.

144 overweight subjects, who were notably heavier in the abdomen, were studied for three years, where their dietary habits were modified, and a physical routine was followed.

At the end of the study, researchers observed that the participants lost an average of 4 kg, and their waistlines shrunk by an average of 5 cm.

In addition, their levels of visceral adipose tissue fell by 18%, which resulted in stabilizing the subjects’ heart rates. A higher amount of visceral fat leads to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes.
