Charlie Sheen gets off

Charlie Sheen pleads guilty and avoids jail time on domestic violence charges.

Charlie Sheen ended another legal drama yesterday (August 2) in Aspen, Colorado. The actor pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor third-degree assault charge stemming from a violent Christmas Day argument with his wife, Brooke Mueller. He allegedly tried to strangle her and threatened her life.

People magazine reports Sheen avoids jail time but must spend 30 days in rehab as part of his plea deal. Two other charges were dropped. Sheen was also sentenced to 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management counselling.

The Two and a Half Men star may not actually have to spend time in rehab. His lawyer indicated that 93 days the actor has already spent in rehab this year may be credited towards his sentence.

Sheen offered this comment on his sentence: "I’m very grateful to the court and to the people of Pitkin County. I look forward to complying with the court’s decision, getting on with my life and putting this behind me."

Charlie Sheen and his wife have twin sons and are trying to work through this difficult time.
