Charlie Sheen’s publicist resigns

Longtime confidant Stan Rosenfield walks away from 10-year association.

The Charlie Sheen saga continues. Between drug-fuelled parties with porn stars, making offensive comments about the creator of his hit TV show Two and a Half Men, and demanding a $1 million per episode pay raise, the actor’s long-suffering publicist Stan Rosenfield has come to the end of his rope.

Standing by Sheen for the last ten years through his messy divorces, and conviction for domestic assault, Rosenfield finally resigned. As the head of Stan Rosenfield & Associates, the publicist handles clients such as George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Helen Mirren, Geoffrey Rush, and tabloid-regular Kelsey Grammer.

"I worked with Charlie Sheen for a long time and I care about him very much,” Rosenfield told the Hollywood Reporter, “however, at this time, I’m unable to work effectively as his publicist and have respectfully resigned.”

The publicist’s resignation came directly after the actor gave an impromptu interview to celebrity gossip website TMZ. In the interview, Sheen talked about the incident at the Plaza Hotel in New York last October where police were called. At the time, Rosenfield had blamed Sheen’s behavior on an allergic reaction to a prescription medication, although the actor had been drinking and doing drugs.

“I was asleep when that statement went out. I wasn’t in control of that one. I respect Stan … Had I conferred with him, I probably would’ve done something better. I don’t know, he’s doing the best he can,” said Sheen to TMZ.

After hearing about Rosenfield’s resignation, Sheen told TMZ, “…He’s not allowed to quit, so you’re fired.”
