Cheryl Cole is recording a song written by Lana Del Rey.

The ‘Promise This’ hitmaker – who is currently working on her third album – has discovered an urban-mid-tempo ballad written by the ‘Video Games’ singer and is keen to have it on the follow-up to her 2010 album ‘Messy Little Raindrops’.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Cheryl is a big fan of Lana and was intrigued to hear she had lots of songs written which she wasn’t going to sing herself.

"She got hold of one and was really taken with it. The record label are pretty happy about it because Lana has a massive following."

Cheryl, 28, has reportedly worked with big names including Rihanna and Taio Cruz for the album, and East London producer and singer Labrinth was delighted when he discovered she wanted to work with him.

He said: "Cheryl [Cole] went over the mountains and far away to find me! She called Chris Martin, Chris called Tinie Tempah and then Tinie hollered at me, ‘Lab, Chris Martin says Cheryl needs your number.’

"And I’m like, ‘I’m just Labrinth from Hackney, how is this happening?’ It was surreal. We should be hooking up soon."
