Chris Brown pays tribute to the King of Pop

One of the best moments at the BET Awards was not without controversy.

The 2010 BET Awards were held last weekend and organizers took the opportunity to mark the first anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death.

Many in attendance were surprised when Jermaine Jackson introduced Chris Brown. The disgraced singer impressively imitated some of the King of Pop’s signature moves.

For those who need a refresher: Brown was on the black list last year after beating up Rihanna. He pleaded guilty to assault charges, received community service and has been working hard ever since to repair his ruined reputation.

Chris Brown was banned from attending the 2009 BET Awards. He was invited back this year with open arms. Things got a little sticky when Man in the Mirror came on. The R&B singer broke down in tears on stage and was too choked up to perform.

The most cynical cried foul but others thought it was a genuine outpouring of emotion from someone who is truly sorry for what he did.

Whatever side of the fence you fall on, it was one of the most memorable parts of the 2010 BET Awards.

On top of that emotionally charged tribute, Chris Brown also picked up the Fandemonium award, beating out rapper Nicki Minaj, R&B crooner Trey Songz and Canadian Justin Bieber. This award is special in its own right because it was voted on by fans.

Brown accepted the award and vowed to fans: "I let you guys down before, but I promise I won’t do it again."
