Chris Cooper joins Demolition

Chris Cooper has signed up to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts in ‘Demolition’.

Chris Cooper has joined the cast of ‘Demolition’.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ actor will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts in the upcoming film to be directed by ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ helmer Jean-Marc Vallee, Deadline reports.

The movie is based on the Black List script of the same name by Bryan Snipe and focuses on a young investment banker (Gyllenhaal) who struggles to come to terms with his emotional unravelling and becomes obsessed with the idea of destruction following the tragic death of his wife.

However, Gyllenhaal’s character begins to turn his life around when he meets a single mother (Watts) – who is the pot-smoking customer service operator for a vending machine company whose money eating machines send him into a rage.

It is so far unclear what role Cooper – who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his part in 2002 film ‘Adaptation’ – will take on in the film.

The 63-year-old star has also appeared alongside Matt Damon in ‘The Bourne Identity’, narrated ‘Johnny Cash’ and was a member of the star-studded cast of ‘August: Osage County’.

Vallee is to begin shooting ‘Demolition’ after he’s wrapped production on the Reese Witherspoon starring ‘Wild’.
