Chris Hemsworth struggled with Rush diet

Chris Hemsworth admits he struggled with the diet he had to stick to for ‘Rush’.

Chris Hemsworth was very ”uncomfortable” with his diet for ‘Rush’.

The 30-year-old actor had to drop around 30lbs to play Formula One driver James Hunt in Ron Howard’s biographical film and admits he struggled to stick to the gruelling diet he was put on so he could fit inside the replica racing cars.

During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’, he revealed: ”I was at 215 lbs and went to 185 lbs or something which was still a squeeze. These things are little rocket ships when you’re cocooned and you feel every vibration of the car … you’re very close to the ground.

”I was very uncomfortable for four or five months … it was a lack of eating and running.”

Chris – who is married to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky – became obsessed with food during shooting and couldn’t stop thinking about his favourite meals.

He said: ”I love food. I understood all of a sudden addiction for the first time in my life. You know I always thought I wouldn’t get hooked on anything and all of a sudden when you deprive yourself of something like food – something really important.

”It was the last thing I was thinking about before bed and the first thing in the morning.”
