Coldplay’s Chris Martin is auctioning one of his most iconic guitars.
The singer is expected to raise over £9,000 for the victims of Hurricane Sandy – which devastated parts of the Caribbean and US last October – by putting the instrument, used on last year’s Mylo Xyloto tour, on fundraising site Charitybuzz.com.
The listing reads: "Collect a one-of-a-kind guitar played by Chris Martin during Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto 2012 tour. The guitar was set up and modified specifically for, and used by, Chris Martin to play ‘God Put A Smile On Your Face’ on tour. The guitar tech had to put the guitar back together after each show, making this guitar completely unique."
Money raised from the sale will go to both the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and the Hurricane Sandy Jersey Relief Fund.
Chris also joined a host of stars to perform at the 12.12.12. benefit gig at Madison Square Gardens in New York to raise funds last year.
He brought some humour to that benefit gig when he mocked boy band One Direction, telling the crowd: "I know you wanted One Direction, but its way past their bedtime. That’s why you get one quarter of Coldplay".
Chris and his band also work closely with a number of other charities including Oxfam, and recently donated an acoustic version of the 2002 hit ‘In My Place’ for a new campaign by the charity highlighting Land Grabs – where wealthy companies invest in agricultural land in poor countries for commercial use – and their affect on surrounding communities.
