Christian Lacroix ode to migratory boys

French fashion house unveils first ready-to-wear collection for men.

With new owners in place, French fashion house Christian Lacroix is reinventing itself from haute couture to focus on ready-to-wear designs. Although Lacroix left the label in 2009, his right-hand man for 17 years, Sacha Walckhoff, has been appointed as creative director by the new owners, Falic Group.

Charged with rebuilding the brand, Walckhoff talked to Dazed Digital about his design approach.

“I wanted to show that ‘Christian Lacroix’ is more a state of mind, a gesture than haute couture imagery,” he said. “There is a way for Lacroix to be closer to the real life without losing ‘un point de vue,’ which is, I think, unique.

“The menswear line helps us to give this vision of Lacroix that I always had: ‘being chic is an attitude, can be affordable and part of your everyday life.’ The funny and unexpected thing is that even Lady GaGa has been wearing the menswear last week!”

Les Garcons Migrateurs (or Migratory Boys) spring-summer 2012 collection is based on the idea of migratory birds, and the collection showcased a French take on masculine fashion, featuring berets, youthful suits, skinny trousers, chunky knits, and embroidered eagle motifs.

The house has organized a fashion show to present the collection on June 22 at its Paris boutique
