Cirque du Soleil brings its magic to PEI

Charlottetown’s SummerFest will play host to the Cirque du Soleil for the next three years.

Organizers of the SummerFest in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, signed a special agreement. Residents and visitors to the capital of Canada’s smallest province will be able to see world famous Quebec artistry at work. The Cirque du Soleil is coming to town, the Quebec troupe that has forged an international reputation over the past 25 years.

Yasmine Khalil is special events director with Cirque du Soleil. She says: "We want to add a little Cirque touch with a unique, customized production that will be presented only in Charlottetown. This event, designed especially for the Charlottetown Summerfest, will be nothing like our usual shows."

There will be three performances on June 30, July 2 and July 4.

Organizers will also present a free multimedia show called Birthplace of Canada that will be projected in colour against a wall of Province House. Families are invited to pass by at dusk to get this free history lesson.

Several other family-oriented events are on the agenda to enhance SummerFest. Day passes are available at a cost of $40 per adult and $20 per child.
