Cloisters Museum reopens in France

Former Benedictine monastery was under renovation for almost two years.

Since 2009, the Cloisters Museum in Tulle, France, has been closed due to renovations and restorations on the both the building and its artifacts.Now, 19 months later, the museum has reopened the east gallery, reports Routard.com.

Located in the heart of the medieval city, the museum occupies the thirteenth century former Benedictine monastery Saint-Martin de Tulle, a heritage building.

Paintings, sculptures and embroidered medieval religious art from Middle Ages to the twentieth century stand alongside portraits, landscapes and still life paintings, furniture and ceramics.

Until January 30, 2012, visitors can enjoy the exhibit Patrimoine en chantier (Heritage under construction) which highlights the restored buildings and collections of the heritage site. Admission is free, as only the ground floor of the museum has reopened.
