Coldplay top pick for 2012 London Olympic openers

Organizers of the 2012 opening ceremony in London wants Coldplay on their stage.

Coldplay top the wishlist of bands that Olympic organizers have put together to perform the official “Welcome Song” at the opening ceremony of the 2012 games in London.

Should the band accept their invitation, they’ll be asked to craft a specially commissioned song to be performed to over two billion spectators. An inside source told a U.K. newspaper that front man Chris Martin will be the first to be solicited:

"Chris is at the top of the list to front the official record. He’s a huge star and a British musical icon, with an international profile. We’re pulling out all the stops to get hold of him, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved, too."

Other artists on the list are Joss Stone, Muse, and Blur lead singer, Damon Albarn.
