Contaminated meat recall

Some ready-to-eat meats could be contaminated with Listeria.

Several ready-to-eat sliced meat products are being recalled in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Montreal’s Dats Deli European Deli issued a warning on many products that may be contaminated with Listeria.

This bacterium can cause listeriosis. Symptoms include high fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea and, in severe cases, death. Pregnant women, the elderly or those with immune deficiency disorders are at greater risk of getting sick.

The sliced meats in question all have an expiry date up to August 10 and bear Establishment number 155.

The affected products include Dats Deli Europeen’s Roast Pork, Black Forest Ham, Old Fashioned Smoked Meat (sliced and unsliced), Seasoned Roast Beef, Smoked Turkey Breast, Cooked Roast Beef, Traditional Style Smoked Meat, Pepperoni, Cooked Turkey Breast and Turkey Smoked Meat; Les Capries d’Al Adhba Smoked Beef (Bacon-style); and Les Viandes Soleil Smoked Beef (Bacon-style).

These products have been taken off store shelves. The company is not taking any chances and adds that no cases of listeriosis have yet been reported.
