Inspired by host Oprah Winfrey, Madonna announced that she is building a school for young girls in Malawi, while on her trip to the country to adopt another child.
The American singer bought land to build the establishment, which came as a shock to the local population.
Esinati Nkhoma, a mother of four, expressed to People, "We are told to leave our gardens after this year’s harvest; we are told our houses are to be pulled down – but nobody is talking about compensation. Where will we move to?"
According to African authorities, the singer’s foundation, Raising Malawi, will compensate for the subsequent damages.
Today (March 30), a Malawi judge will hear Madonna’s request for the adoption of Mercy James, a little three-year-old girl whose mother died at the age of 18.
