One of the most advanced science centres in Europe opens today in Poland.

This week, the Copernicus Science Centre opens in the heart of Warsaw, Poland, and will include over 400 interactive exhibits allowing visitors to conduct experiments and discover the laws of science for themselves.

The Centre will be the largest institution of its type in Poland and one of the most advanced in Europe. The first module opened today (November 5), and the second module is planned for 2011.

Permanent exhibitions themed Man and Environment and World in Motion will complement its natural science exhibits along with art installations inspired by science.

Located on the banks of the Vistula River near the University of Warsaw, the building will be surrounded by Discover Park, dedicated to scientific experiments. An amphitheatre, beach, and pool will complement the facilities.

Since 2008 the Copernicus Science Centre together with Polish Radio has organized the Science Picnic – Europe’s largest outdoor science-themed event.
