Courtney Love settles

Kurt Cobain’s widow makes a deal to end lawsuit against her.

Courtney Love inherited many of the rights to Nirvana songs after her husband, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994. She decided to sell off a 25% stake in the catalogue in 2006.

London and Co. then sued the Hole singer in 2008 for $1 million over profits from the sale of the Nirvana catalogue. The management company claimed Courtney Love did not share earnings she received after she sold her stake. Bosses at London and Co. claimed the sale was worth around $20 million.

The case was recently settled out of court and is now closed. Lawyers for London and Co. and Love informed a judge in Los Angeles last Wednesday (August 11) that they had settled.

Love’s attorney, James Janowitz, confirmed a deal had been reached but would offer no further comment about the settlement.

Courtney Love considered selling off her remaining stake in the catalogue earlier this year. In May, she revealed: "I’m thinking about selling off all of Kurt’s publishing. All of the rights, everything. It’s not a financial decision; it’s an emotional one… That money has been cursed since the day it started to come in. It’s not really my money."
