Courtney Love wants to make a clean break

The singer talks about selling the rights to her late husband’s back catalogue.

Courtney Love began a new chapter this week with the release of Hole’s third album, Nobody’s Daughter. She wants to move on and can’t seem to shake a heavy label following her around, that of Kurt Cobain’s widow. The Nirvana frontman committed suicide in April 1994 at the height of the band’s glory.

Now the 45-year old artist wants a clean break from the past. She announced to The Scotsman: "I’m thinking about selling off all of Kurt’s publishing. All of the rights, everything. It’s not a financial decision; it’s an emotional one."

She added: "He was the best friend I’ve ever had, but Kurt and I were only married for three years, and now I need to have my own life. I’m always ‘the widow’ and that drives me nuts. That money has been cursed since the day it started to come in. It’s not really my money. I don’t want Kurt Cobain to buy me shoes anymore. I want to buy my own shoes – lots of them."

Love already sold 50% of the catalogue in 2006 for a reported $50 million US.
