Harold revolves around the title character of the same name, a prematurely balding teenager who is trying to adapt to a new school. Gooding will play the school janitor who befriends Harold and helps him through the endless teasing from the other students.
Veteran Saturday Night Live writer, T. Sean Shannon, will make his directorial debut in the project that was written by him and Greg Fields.
Filming is set to begin in August in New York. Producers hope to have a final product ready for the next Sundance Film Festival.
