Damian Lewis cast in ‘Queen of the Desert’

Damian Lewis appears to have been cast in ‘Queen of the Desert’ where he will star alongside Nicole Kidman who plays leading lady Gertrude Bell with whom Damien’s character begins an affair.

Damian Lewis has been cast in ‘Queen of the Desert.’

The 42-year-old actor is nearing a deal to star opposite Nicole Kidman in the biopic of Gertrude Bell – a woman who became highly influential to British imperial policy-making due to her skill and contacts – in a film which tells the tale of her involvement in the formation of the Middle East.

According to Deadline.com Lewis stars as an English war hero, Lieutenant colonel Charles Doughty-Wylie, who begins an affair with the leading lady played by Kidman.

The blonde beauty recently replaced her friend and fellow actress Naomi Watts on the movie, while James Franco served as a replacement for Jude Law.

Damian will also appear alongside Robert Pattinson in the historical film which is to be directed by Werner Herzog.

Originally filming was supposed to start earlier this year however it has been pushed back to December when they will shoot in Morocco and ‘Queen of the Desert’ is scheduled for release in 2015.

Meanwhile, Damian is currently starring in ‘Homeland’, a US thriller series in which he plays a Congressman and retired U.S. Marine Gunnery Sergeant Nicholas Brody.
