DeVito has signed on as director of the film The Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. It will be a film adaptation of the young adult novel written by Avi.
The movie will star Morgan Freeman, Pierce Brosnan, and Saoirse Ronan (Atonement).
Ronan will play Charlotte, a young girl who travels from England to America on a ship in 1830. She finds herself caught in a situation between a ruthless captain and an insubordinate crew.
Filming will begin in September and the movie is scheduled to be released in 2009.
In the meantime, DeVito can be seen in House Broken later this year and When in Rome next year.
