David Bowie exhibit coming to New York City

David Bowie, Artist opens May 9 at the Museum of Arts and Design.

A new exhibit opening at New York City’s Museum of Arts and Design, David Bowie, Artist is a multi-platform retrospective showcasing Bowie’s genre-bending work in music, film, fashion, art and a number of other creative disciplines.

The retrospective opens May 9 and runs until July 15, and is being presented in conjunction with another MAD exhibit, Otherworldly: Optical Delusions and Small Realities.

From June 3 to July 7, the exhibit will also include a number of cinema screenings, closing out with a special two-week run of a new 35 mm print of The Man Who Fell To Earth, starring Bowie as a humanoid alien who comes to earth in search of water to save his own dying planet.

Along with the film series, the program will also include video kiosks playing music videos, concert footage, interviews and other multimedia clips.

"’David Bowie, Artist’ will present a layered and shifting body of work that has continually innovated practices throughout a multitude of cultural spheres," the exhibit organizers explained in a statement.
