David Bowie says no license for Heroes musical

Pop star releases statement that contradicts press reports.

UK pop star David Bowie has released a statement that no license was granted for a Heroes musical publicized for London’s 02 arena, reports NME.

Following news reports in the UK’s Guardian and the Observer, an official statement was published on the singer’s website.

“Neither the David Bowie Organization, nor its co-publishers EMI Music and Chrysalis, has issued a license for this performance at the O2. There are no negotiations pending for a long running musical featuring the music of Mr. Bowie.”

Press reports had originally stated that Bowie had given his permission for his songs to be turned into a full-scale musical based on the story of Major Tom, the starman and a young man called David, for a musical next March 11, 2012.

The 64-year-old Bowie’s last album was 2003’s Reality.
