David Cronenberg Slams Bill C-10

Canadian director David Cronenberg struck down Bill C-10.

Cronenberg (A History of Violence, Eastern Promises) went to Ottawa to speak before the Senate on the Bill proposed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

This law would give the committee, speared by Heritage Minister Josée Verner, the right to censor scenes that the committee finds repulsive.  There would also be a tax change in Bill C-10, which could give the government the right to refuse funding for certain films.

He thinks that this type of system has already been established by Téléfilm Canada, and added that he has never seen porn, criminal and hate films made with government funding during his career.  He claims that Téléfilm Canada oversees this area. For 40 years, David Cronenberg has benefitted from tax credits for his productions.

Canadian actresses Sarah Polley and Sandra Oh supported Cronenberg’s arguments.
