David Cronenberg To Remake The Fly

David Cronenberg wants to bring a new version of the film The Fly to theatres near you.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Canadian filmmaker wants to remake the 1986 film.

Cronenberg’s version would in fact be the film’s second remake.  The 1986 film, which starred Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle, a scientist who turns into a fly after a botched lab experiment, was itself a remake of a 1958 film.  Geena Davis also starred in 1986 as Brundle’s love interest.

Chris Walas took a crack at the film three years later, calling it The Fly II, but was unsuccessful in catching the attention of critics or movie fans.

David Cronenberg has a few other projects currently in development, including The Matarese Circle, based on the Robert Ludlum book.  Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington have already announced that they will be starring in the film.
