Decorative and fragrant new flame

Lampe Berger introduces seasonal Art Edition fragrant oil-burning lamp collection.

Lampe Berger – creator of decorative oil-burning fragrance lamps – has launched a new collection of lamps and scents, available in over 80 styles created by famous artists and designers.

As part of the company’s Art Edition line, design group Tous les Trois has contributed Planète: a Saturn-shaped ball of silver with star-shaped cut-outs to provide light and fragrance to peek through. Artist David Boulangé, meanwhile, has created both the smooth lines of the sandalwood Fleur De Bi Ya Doo and the angular and futuristic-looking Coeur Noir in lustrous black and silver.

With the change in the weather, artist Hilton McConnico has created the limited edition 4 Seasons lamp, which features a different illustration on each of its four faces. Winter is represented by a mother and baby penguin flying a balloon, while summer features a sailboat on an azure sea. Spring and fall are represented by a swing hanging from a tree branch and a mushroom.

The Art Edition lamps retail between $800 and $2,000 each, while the more affordable 4 Seasons has a suggested retail price of $79. A wide range of perfumed oils are available, each selling for $24 for a 500 mL bottle.

The first Lampe Berger was designed in 1898 by pharmacist Maurice Berger as a way to purify the air in hospitals. In the 1930s, the idea was used to create lamps for the home that would provide pleasurable fragrances in a stylish and artistic container.
