On Monday (November 3), Cheng was seriously injured in a car accident in Santa Clara, California.
Since the accident, the musician has been in a coma in a San Jose hospital, surrounded by his friends and family.
The band’s singer, Chino Moreno, confirmed the news of the accident, but refused to give further details. Moreno told the Sacramento Bee, "I don’t know everything that’s going on — I just know it’s very serious."
The band had been working in the studio on their next album, Eros, which is expected to be released in the spring.
