Degrassi actors take the lead

Actors from the Degrassi series will participate in an initiative in support of Free the Children.

Cast members from Degrassi: The Next Generation will help lead young volunteers to India and Ecuador this summer, reports The Star.

These tours are organized by Me to We Trips, a 10-year old, Toronto-based organization that supports the work of its charitable partner, the Free the Children organization. The tours are aimed at kids between 13-21 years old.

Actors Sarah Barrable-Tishauer and Evan Williams will help lead kids on a tour of Rajasthan province in India. It starts July 21 and goes until August 9.

Volunteers will visit Free the Children development projects, help build a school and join in group discussions on social issues.

Actors Dalmar Abuzeid and Scott Paterson will help lead kids on a tour of Chimborazo province in Ecuador. Volunteers will help build a school and participate in management and leadership workshops.

Evan Williams went on a Me to We Trip to Ecuador in 2007. He says, "I’m excited to have the privilege of leading others through a similar experience."
