Diane von Furstenberg closes the Gap

Little wrap dresses for BabyGap and GapKids?

After a successful collaboration with British designer Stella McCartney, American retailer, The Gap, has chosen Belgian-American designer, Diane von Furstenberg, to create a new collection, reports Coco Perez.

DVF’s long-rumored collaboration for GapKids and Baby Gap is expected to debut with a girls’ collection in spring-summer 2012. Can you imagine chic little wrap dresses and colorful prints for the younger set?

Although Gap hasn’t confirmed the new collaboration, industry sources claim to have seen sketches from the collection.

Furstenberg is the latest to take on the childrenswear market. Former GapKids collaborator Stella McCartney had such good response to her collection that she’s since created one under her own label.

In the last year or two, several major houses have hopped on the kiddie bandwagon, including Fendi and Gucci. Jennifer Lopez’s twins starred in a recent Gucci ad campaign with shots of the toddlers cavorting with their famous mother on the beach.

As a designer, Furstenberg first came to prominence in the 1970s with the design of her iconic wrap dress, and launched the women’s perfume, Tatiana, around the same time. In addition to her main collection of ready-to-wear and accessories, DVF also designs fine jewelry with H. Stern, recently debuted housewares under her own label, and will return this fall to the fragrance world with Diane, her first new scent in years.
