A friend of Raffaello Follieri, an Italian businessman accused of fraud, believes that Hathaway worked with the FBI before Follieri’s arrest. The friend told the New York Daily News, "It makes sense. She’s referred to as his former girlfriend in the indictment even though her spokesman never confirmed they broke up."
Hathaway, whose name does not appear anywhere in the charges against Follieri, broke up with the businessman two weeks ago. The actress felt that his questionable business deals, involving several millions of dollars, were ruining her reputation.
"I think that in return for her cooperation, the feds held off on arresting Follieri until she was out of the country," added the source.
