Known for its rich architecture and beautiful tropical gardens, the south Florida island of Key West has been called the ‘Gibraltar of the Caribbean,’ with a colorful history now accessible through the Key West Historic Marker Tour, reports Routard.
The tour allows visitors to discover the historic landmarks around the island, with markers placed at the selected sites to explain their historic significance, and a phone number to call for an audio history.
There are up to fifty sites listed, with additional sites being considered for inclusion. The complete tour is available for download.
Tourists can learn about the unique history of Key West, including its literary community with the likes of Hemingway, the railway line, the cigar industry, and its Cuban heritage.
