Disney to release Marvel animated film

Disney and Marvel Studios will release its first animated superhero caper next year, based on the Marvel comic book series ‘Big Hero 6’.

Disney has announced its first Marvel animated feature.

The movie studio will release ‘Big Hero 6’, the first animated flick from superhero-themed subsidiary company Marvel Studios, in November 2014.

The futuristic CGI film is set in a high-tech city called San Fransokyo and centres on a robotics genius, Hiro Hamada, and his team of crime-fighting heroes.

Disney said in a statement: "From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes ‘Big Hero 6’, an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo.

"With the help of his closest companion — a robot named Baymax — Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city."

The movie is based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name, which launched in 1998.

Disney is renowned for producing animated flicks, including ‘Toy Story’, but has thus far only produced live-action superhero flicks through Marvel.

Marvel, led by studio boss Kevin Feige, and Disney recently celebrated the success of ‘Iron Man 3’, which grossed over $700 million worldwide in just two weeks.

‘Big Hero 6’ is due for release on November 7 2014.
