According to Teen Music, the rap star was arrested and jailed after violating his bail conditions by using illegal drugs.
A lawyer for the rapper (real name Earl Simmons) made a public appeal for help to television drug counsellor Dr. Drew Pinsky.
Lawyer Gary Kenkins said, "He’s been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment. We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him. He’s a talented man… We’re praying for him."
DMX spent some time behind bars last year for drug possession, animal cruelty and theft following a string of arrests in 2008. His sentence was only supposed to be 90 days but it was prolonged due to his attitude while in prison.
When he got out of prison in May 2009, he was sentenced to 18 months of probation for threatening a prison guard during his prison stay.
