Dolce & Gabanna replace Madonna

Italian luxury fashion house reveals new models for Spring-Summer 2011 campaign.

The Spring-Summer 2011 advertising campaign from Dolce & Gabanna’s has been unveiled, and superstar Madonna is no longer in the picture.

The Spring 2010 ad campaign which featured Madonna was inspired by Italian Neorealism cinema and showed the star in the role of an Italian housewife, washing dishes and preparing food in a setting inspired by old-world Italy.

Now the Spring / Summer 2011 campaign takes a more sensuous approach, featuring Victoria’s Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio and Izabel Goulart, along with models Maryna Linchuk and Isabeli Fontana.

The new campaign is photographed by Steven Klein, who also worked on Madonna’s ad campaign last year. The photographer has a longstanding professional relationship with Madonna, collaborating with her in 2003 on an installation titled X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS, as well as filming several of her concert backdrop videos.

Just last month, fashion house founders Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana faced indictment on charges of tax evasion in Italy. They are accused of owing over $1 billion US in taxes to the Italian government, though some say it is little more than a witch hunt by a cash-strapped government.

The design company was founded in Italy in 1985. It features two central labels: Dolce & Gabbana, which offers expensive haute couture, with D&G offering more casual and affordable options.
