DreamWorks characters sail the high seas

DreamWorks studios will bring its characters to life on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Disney has been doing it for years on family-themed cruises. Now DreamWorks has decided to come on board. It is partnering with Royal Caribbean to entertain families that travel on some of the company’s fleet.

Families are invited to come and discover the DreamWorks Experience. Young and old alike will "be surprised with DreamWorks-themed activities throughout their cruise vacation, featuring characters year-round from some of DreamWorks most popular feature films." There will be characters from feature films like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon.

Tourists who travel with their kids will be entertained by a string of characters including Shrek, Princess Fiona and Puss in Boots from Shrek, Alex, Marty and the penguins from Madagascar, Po from Kung Fu Panda and Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon.

Norwegian Cruise Lines also recently inked a deal with Nickelodeon and its characters SpongeBob and Dora in particular. It appears that the family market is now in the middle of a war on the high seas as these companies vie for market share.

Disney does not intend to sit back and let the competition take over. It announced that two new ships, the Disney Dream (2011) and Disney Fantasy (2012), will be added to its fleet shortly.
