Duran Duran premieres 9-minute Girl Panic! music video
Duran Duran has just released their latest music video, an elaborate production of almost 10 minutes for Girl Panic! featuring legendary supermodels from the 1980s.
The band formed about the same time music videos were invented, and they were one of the first groups to make the most of the new medium. So it’s not surprising they chose music video maestro Jonas Akerlund to film their latest video. Akerlund is known for his work with Lady Gaga and Madonna, and recently won the icon award at the U.K. Music Video Awards.
The action takes place at the prestigious Savoy Hotel in London and members of Duran Duran play a secondary role to the supermodels who are standing in for them.
Lead singer Simon Le Bon is played by Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen is drummer Roger Taylor, Eva Herzigova is keyboardist Nick Rhodes, Cindy Crawford represents bassist John Taylor, while Yasmin Le Bon, the singer’s wife, represents “the anonymous guitarist.”
Not only is the video promoting the song, but there’s a rather shameless plug for a certain crystal manufacturer. Oh dear, the band boasts they were first to use supermodels in their videos, so could overt product placement be their newest achievement?
Girl Panic! is a single from the group’s thirteenth studio album All You Need is Now, released in December of last year.
