While director McG was hoping to work with Will Smith for the remake, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, we have learned that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has accepted the role as Captain Nemo.
Production Weekly reported that Johnson will star in the film, which is set to shoot later this year in Australia. This rendition of the film was produced by Disney Studios, with whom Johnson also collaborated for the films The Game Plan and The Race to Witch Mountain.
The screenplay for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo tells the story of a fugitive whaler who teams up with a naturalist, a mysterious woman, and the captain of a futuristic submarine to seek a lost civilisation.
In the meantime, we can see Dwayne Johnson in Tooth Fairy, opening January 22, 2010.
