Ebony Day wins MTV Brand New 2013

Ebony Day has been named winner of MTV Brand New 2013.

The Youtube sensation – dubbed ‘The Female Justin Bieber’- has become the first unsigned artist to scoop the prize, beating competition from Tom Odell, Haim and K Koke.

The shortlist was whittled down from over 500 unsigned artists who entered the competition, and over 30,000 votes were cast to pick the winner after the shortlist of ten acts was announced last year.

Speaking about her plans for 2013, Ebony exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I’m trying to find what I want to do at the minute, so I want to keep things acoustic and simple now, and will build on it later. Because I have always done my cover versions acoustically, I want to keep that element."

Ebony is also aiming high when it comes to the artists she wants to work with, adding: "I think David Guetta is so good, I love him. I love a bit of Flo Rida too. I just want to learn from loads of different producers, I can’t really limit it to one."

The singer has gained over 19 million views on her YouTube channel of her singing cover versions of other people’s tracks, and now hopes to bring out an EP before the end of the year.
