Egypt has record year for tourism

More than 14.7 million tourists visited Egypt in 2010.

Several tourist destinations suffered from the morose stock markets of 2009, but 2010 has seen a revitalization of both the stock market and tourism in many countries.

Egypt is one nation that has every reason to look to the year ahead with optimism. With a total of 14.7 million tourists, Egypt has experienced a dramatic increase of 17.5 percent over the previous year.

Most of the travellers are coming from Russia and Europe. Last year, over 2.8 million Russians visited the country – and increase of 40 percent. About one million Europeans from the UK, Germany and Italy each visited Egypt.

Europe used to be the number one tourist destination with nearly 11 million visitors annually, however Egypt broke that record in 2008 with nearly 13 million visitors.
