The parents of Italian model Elisabetta Canalias spoke up about their daughter’s break-up with Hollywood leading man, George Clooney, after a two-year relationship.
Her daughter "is very down in the dumps," according to her mother, Bruna, in an interview with the Italian edition of Vanity Fair. "I’ve spoken to her, and she is very sad, but these things happen."
Last year, the actor met his girlfriend’s parents, Cesare and Bruna, during a visit to Sardinia. "He is a nice guy, good fun," said her father, Cesare. "We had a good time, but there was a lot of attention and we are not used to it."
Papa Canalis is disappointed that Clooney won’t be joining the family. "He certainly would have made a good son-in-law, but it’s my daughter who has to decide."
Clooney, 50, and Canalis, 32, announced their separation in a joint statement. “It’s very difficult and very personal. We hope everyone can respect our privacy."
Shortly before their separation, Canalis said in an interview with Italian magazine Chi that she was happier than ever and had not closed the door to marriage. While Clooney publicly has vowed that he will never walk down the aisle again, Canalis said she is a “firm believer in marriage.”
