Page, who made her big break in the film Juno, will play author Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, a young governess who falls in love with her employer, Mr. Rochester, a rigid man who is hiding a terrible secret.
According to Variety, Alison Owen and Ruby Films, who recently produced The Other Boleyn Girl, are working with BBC on the new adaptation. Moira Buffini wrote the screenplay. A director has not yet been chosen for the project. Producers hope to begin filming this fall.
Jane Eyre has already been adapted for film and television twenty times. Recently, BBC created a mini-series that won three Emmy awards last year.
Ellen Page can be seen in the films Whip It! and Peacock next year.
