Elton John to stage George Orwell’s Animal Farm

George Orwell’s famous novel will be adapted   onstage as a musical.

George Orwell’s Animal Farm is an allegory that transposes Communism to life on a farm. The author wrote the novel to demonstrate his conviction that though post WW 2 Eastern-Bloc Communism had value in theory, the system eventually only benefitted the ruling elite.

The novel was released in 1945, three years before his most famous novel, 1984, helped to educate people once again about long-term about the consequences of the Communist regime.

Animal Farm will be the centerpiece of a new musical by Elton John, with lyrics by  the work of Lee Hall.

The two will work together for the second time ; they first teamed up for musical inspired by the hit movie Billy Elliot.

In the 1970s, David Bowie wanted to make a musical of the novel 1984, Orwell, but the writer’s estate denied him the rights to the book.
