Eminem accepts his Artist of the Year trophy

Nielsen Soundscan confirms the rapper as the bestselling artist of the decade.

Eminem added another trophy to his collection this week, as Eric Weinberg and Chris Muratore presented him with a plaque confirming that from January 1, 2000 to January 31, 2009, no other musician sold more albums than him.

Eminem was joined for the occasion by his usual wingman, Dr. Dre, the producer who is staging his own comeback with his first record since 2001, which appeared in 1999. Eminem’s success coincided with Dr. Dre’s long absence, as the producer concentrated on Eminem’s efforts.

In the last decade, Eminem sold a total of 32.2 million records. The rapper has two albums among the top ten sold in the ’00s. The Marshall Mathers LP is fourth on the list with 10,195,000 records sold, and The Eminem Show is fifth with 9,789,000 copies.

The bestselling album of the decade is the Beatles with 1, their compilation of career number-one hits, which has sold 11,448,000 copies.

Eminem’s new record, Recovery, hits racks June 18, 2010.
