Eminem stays on top

Eminem’s Recovery beats out Tom Jones for the number one spot in the UK.

Universal Island might want to rethink its PR strategy. The record label issued a press release last week claiming Tom Jones was "set to be the oldest male musician to have a U.K. No. 1 album." However, in the end, the spot went to Eminem’s Recovery.

Praise & Blame is the new album by Tom Jones. The 70-year old Welsh singer has been garnering excellent reviews since his latest album was released. Billboard.com reported: "The new album sees Jones interpreting the likes of John Lee Hooker, the Staple Singers and Mahalia Jackson in a rootsy style that’s clearly close to his heart as well as his R&B musical roots."

Initial UK sales figures from the beginning of the week had Jones in first place. However, Eminem’s new album pushed strong at the end of the week and the final sales tally went in his favour.

The Detroit rapper has wowed critics and fans alike with his follow up to 2009’s Relapse. His new single Love the Way You Lie, featuring Rihanna, is sitting at the top of charts around the world.
