Six months after she was originally spotted filming in Paris, Emma Watson’s new commercial for French beauty brand Lancôme has finally launched online.
The 21-year-old starlet – who is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films – appears alongside French actor Cyril Descours in the new television ad for Tresor Midnight Rose fragrance, which Watson describes as a modern but timeless love story.
"I think all of the Lancôme fragrances have a theme of romance to them in some way. I wanted there to be a sense of optimism and fun, and a sense of youthful energy and positivity," the actress explained in an earlier teaser video released in July.
"What I love about the story that we put together was that it’s almost like fate – it’s chance that brings the two of them together. You never know what’s going to be around the corner… Life is just kind of magical and full of surprises. I wanted the love story to be about that. There’s something modern and also timeless about that kind of story."
Intercutting between present and past, the commercial tells the tale of two strangers brought together with the aid of an apparently magical hat. Flirting with the bookstore clerk, Watson conveniently forgets her hat in the shop. Later, he races after her when he happens to spy her in the street, and just when we literally think ‘That boat has sailed,’…well, it’s not exactly the end.
