English fans in festival heaven

AC/DC, Jay-Z and Broken Social Scene will perform at British music festivals this weekend.

Jay-Z, Pink, The Strokes, Blondie and Florence and The Machine are just some of the big names performing at the Isle of Wight Festival this weekend. It kicks off today (June 11) and ends on Sunday (June 13) in England.

Festival promoter John Giddings was quoted as saying: "Ever since I heard the first Strokes album, I’ve wanted them for the Isle of Wight. Jay-Z and Pink are two of the best live acts I have ever seen and the Blondie hits speak for themselves. I can’t wait!"

For their part, groups AC/DC and Them Crooked Vultures are both ready to take to the stage at the Download Festival in London this weekend.

Many music festivals take place in the United Kingdom during the summer season. The Glastonbury Festival is also on the calendar for later this month. It starts on June 23.

U2 was supposed to be a headline act but had to back out now that Bono is recovering from surgery. The Glastonbury Festival welcomes a who’s who of musicians each year. The list is too long to recount so click here to check it out. Canada’s own Broken Social Scene will be making an appearance. The bad news for anybody wanting to get tickets at this late date is that the festival is already completely sold out.
