English Version of Millenium Underway

The Millenium franchise is set to hit the big screen in English.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Sony Pictures is finalising a contract for the rights produce the Millenium film franchise in English.

The franchise is based on a trilogy by Swedish writer and journalist, Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004 and left three unpublished novels. Once they were published, the books were a flaming success.

Last May, a first film, directed by Niels Arden Oplev and starring Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace and Lena Endre, hit the silver screen.

The first English version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set to be adapted by screenwriter Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Gangs of New York).

The second film is based on the second novel, The Girl Who Played with Fire.  The third and last film, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, still hasn’t been tagged with a release date.

Management at Sony Pictures spoke of being seduced by the characters and the storyline’s intrigue. Sony is not planning to do a remake of the existing version, but rather another film adaptation.
