According to Parade magazine, Hawke is talking for the first time about his split from Thurman in 2004.
The Fast Food Nation star explained that it was not easy for him to be married to such a big star. Hawke, 36, said, "To be honest, it was an undue pressure on my marriage."
Hawke adds that the most important thing in his life are his children, Maya, 8, and Levon, 4, which is why he takes fatherhood seriously.
Regarding Thurman, Hawke concluded,
"She’s a great mother, and raising the kids is a priority for both of us. We’re so fortunate that we have each other’s back in that way. Because I write and act in theater, it’s a lot easier for me to stay in the city."
