Eva Mendes is currently in negotiations to star in the new version of the film Bad Lieutenant, according to Variety. If she joins the cast, she will be reunited with her Ghost Rider co-star, Nicolas Cage.
Bad Lieutenant follows the story of a corrupted police officer, dealing with his own problems of drugs and debt, who is investigating the death of a nun. The previous version of the film, released in 1992, starred Harvey Keitel.
The new screenplay was written by William M. Finkelstein, a specialist in police television series, such as L.A. Law, Law & Order, NYPD Blue. The film will be directed by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Rescue Dawn).
Eva Mendes shares the screen with Meg Ryan in the upcoming dramatic comedy, The Women, opening in theatres on September 12.
