French fashion house Thierry Mugler has unveiled the first images of its new ad campaign for Angel perfume, starring Eva Mendes, reports Vogue.
The highly stylized prints feature Mendes and the perfume against a sci fi-inspired starry background. The first shot shows Mendes in a frilly Disney-princess gown, hair blowing wildly around her. The second image has the model in a tight sequined dress, two starbursts of light forming angel wings behind her.
Earlier this year, Mendes took over the role of brand ambassador from actress Naomi Watts, who had served as the face of the perfume since 2008.
"While Naomi Watts’ ethereal beauty embodied the angelic aspect of the fragrance, Thierry Mugler chose to reignite the enticing and explosive dimensions of the fragrance with the sultry Mendes," said a Mugler spokesperson.
"Though her obviously flawless physical beauty is in perfect harmony with the artist’s aesthetic canon, Ms. Mendes mesmerized Mugler with her independence, determination and humor."
The sweet-smelling fragrance was Mugler’s first perfume and debuted in 1992. Prior to Watts, the scent was represented by French actress Estelle Lefébure, American model and actress (and consort of Mick Jagger) Jerry Hall, and Italian model Bianca Balti, among others.
No stranger to modeling, Mendes has appeared in several ads for Calvin Klein since 2008. One of her previous campaigns for their Secret Obsession fragrance caused controversy when she posed naked and covered in oil for a series of billboard ads that went up across New York City.
The 37-year-old actress can next be seen in the dramedy See if I Care alongside Matthew Modine, and Patricia Arquette due for release later this year.
